General Summary

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day

Bus supervision for arrival and dismissal
Meets with parents on an as-needed basis, including drop-in and appointments in regards to parent concerns, resolving concerns through process of investigation/communication
Hall supervision in the a.m. before the bell rings
Announcements
Communication as needed via e-mail and phone to staff, parents and central office
Follows-up on daily attendance, addressing student attendance needs through letters, phone calls, meetings or home visits
Lunch supervision in cafeteria, halls and playground
Responsible for daily operation of facility, ensuring working systems (heat, water, etc.) and communicating with central office or custodial service to solve operation problems.
Continually gathers data for reports (attendance, student achievement, etc)
Develops consistent approaches to discipline, advising parents, students and staff for standards for behavior and achievement.
Enforces discipline following process of office referrals, investigation, student conference, parent phone call, administering consequences for all areas including bus, classroom, cafeteria, playground, etc.
Creates and enforces rules and policy for safety throughout the facility, including fire drills, tornado drills and lockdown drills
Arranges substitute staff as needed to assure coverage in all positions, including use of Willsub and personal contacts
Responsible for review and approval of hourly employee hours in Ultratime
Oversees daily operation of Title I and Title VI programming, special education,
Communicates with staff through meetings, email and Monday Memo

Employee Supervision

Must have a working knowledge of all labor contracts and District policies
Assures conformity to the terms of labor union contracts as part of the management process
Oversees the welfare of all employees
Responsible for interviewing and making recommendations for any open positions
Participates in the training of new hires
Observes and evaluates all employees on a regular basis

o Teachers:

Maintains schedule of routine classroom visitations and observations;
Meets with individual professional staff to establish individual student achievement goals
Meets with individual teachers on a regular basis to monitor and discuss professional practice in the classroom
Documentation of visitations and observations
Taking corrective action if and when necessary, including required documentation and subsequent meetings
Responsible for final evaluation process including preparing reports, meeting with individual staff and reporting effectiveness rating

o Paraprofessionals:

Monthly meetings to review student achievement, schedules and/or address concerns
Review of job performance on an on-going basis
Development and implementation of evaluation procedure

o Support staff (breakfast and noon hour supervisors, kitchen serving staff, secretaries):

Meetings with employee groups on an as-needed basis to review procedures and/or address concerns
Review of job performance on an on-going basis
Development and implementation of evaluation procedure

Professional Development

Responsible for agenda and conducting monthly staff meetings with professional staff
Responsible for agenda and implementing professional development for elementary staff on district professional development days
Attends monthly elementary principal meetings at MARESA for updates on State mandates, testing, school improvement, etc.
Attends annual elementary principal MEMSPA State Conference for updates on curriculum, student achievement, student discipline, staff evaluation, school improvement, etc.

Schedule

Establishes school instructional schedule including special education, specials classes (art, music, PE, library, etc.), and core classes
Establishes Title I schedule including Title I teachers and Title I parapros
Establishes and communicates school events calendar (Christmas and Spring programs, kindergarten and fifth grade graduations, Open House, family events, etc.)
Establishes Schedule B needs for the building, including approving activities and personnel

School Budget

Provides leadership for the planning, development and implementation of the elementary school’s budget
Responsible for developing and maintaining general fund line items for proper function of a high-quality instructional program (teaching supplies, consumables, testing supplies, etc.)
Approves purchases for school supplies including but not limited to: paper, classroom supplies, equipment needs, consumables, technology needs, etc.
Approves monthly P-Card purchases
Responsible for developing, maintaining and expenditure of Student Activities Fund
Oversees maintenance of general inventory including equipment, furniture, supplies, technology, textbooks, etc.

School /Community Relations

Communicates regularly with Parent Volunteer Organization
Participates in monthly PTO meetings
Implements monthly parent meetings (PIE with the Principal or other activity)
Hosts parent events throughout the year such as Open House, First Day Coffee, PIE with the Principal or other activity
Communication through Facebook, DOJO, etc.
Responsible for implementation of yearly Countdown to Kindergarten program
Communicates as needed with external resources to support school programming (Fire Prevention Week, Tornado Awareness Week, assemblies, etc.)
Participates and/or communicates with community organizations such as the Sawyer Alliance Organization

School Curriculum

Provides leadership for the planning, development and implementation of the elementary school’s curriculum
Meets regularly with staff to implement and evaluate curriculum, including new electronic resources to support instruction and student achievement
Participates with District Curriculum Committee

School Improvement

Serves as leader in the development and implementation of the school’s improvement plan
Leads school improvement meetings for review and revision of goals
Ensures that school improvement plan is updated annually to Michigan Department of Education
Responsible for writing school’s annual report
Participates with District School Improvement Team

Special Education/504

Responsible for medical management of any student needs such as allergies, diabetes, etc. including meetings, developing the plan, overseeing implementation of the plan, etc.
Responsible for reviewing transfer student IEP’s
Responsible for attending all IEP and 504 meetings
Responsible for supporting implementation of IEP and 504 plans, including behavior plans
Responsible for attending end-of-year special education and 504 transition meetings
Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Flex Room program (K.I. Sawyer only)

Student Achievement

Responsible for accurate and timely administration of all State tests, including inventory, scheduled and proper administration by all staff involved
Participates in the evaluation of test results and using findings to direct future instruction and student achievement
Oversees other assessment programs, ensuring proper implementation and usage of programs (IDI, NWEA, Reading Fluency, etc.)
Oversees and attends IRIP (Individual Reading Improvement Plan) Meetings
Schedules and participates in quarterly grade level meetings with staff to review academic and social progress of each individual student

Student Discipline and Welfare

Establish and maintain an equitable system of discipline, consequence and rewards to promote positive citizenship among students in the school
Plan, organize and supervise recognition programs for school activities
Coordinate student personnel services including the maintenance of discipline, the monitoring of attendance, the preparation of handbooks, the supervision of student scheduled, the supervision of school health services, providing assistance in guidance and counseling activities and collaborating with others in the modification of student behavior, including non-school service agencies

Other

Provides leadership for the implementation of student teaching programs within the District and serves as liaison between the District and universities for this purpose.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Elementary Special Education Teacher

GACS has an opening for an elementary special education teacher beginning with the 2021-22 school year.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, appropriate Michigan teacher certification, meet the MDE highly qualified standards and hold a valid teaching certification with endorsements for the position(s) for which they are applying (ie: Learning Disabilities, Cognitive Impairments, or Emotionally Impaired). Candidates must also possess strong instructional skills in the core curriculum, strong classroom management skills and the ability to utilize instructional technology.

The Board of Education may employ an individual with such alternative qualifications that the Board finds to be appropriate and suitable.

Temporary Summer School Teacher opening

The following temporary positions are considered open and will be effective for the 2021 COVID-19 remediation services program that include a summer program. Summer School will be eight weeks during the months of June, July, and August.

Gwinn Middle/High School Summer School (Grades 6-8)

Description:     Total of two (2) teachers, one (1) teacher certified in the following core subjects: Science & Math for grades 6-8 to focus on remediation and re-teaching of key skills and topics. Teachers will be scheduled to teach 4 hours/day, 2 days/week on a set schedule.

Dates:              TBD

Time:               9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Salary:             $50/hour (4 sessions/day, 2 days/week, Monday – Thursday, for 8 weeks, consisting of 50-minute sessions with 8-12 students)

Other expectations/responsibilities:

·         Experience with curriculum for grades 6-8 preferred.

·         Teachers must be available the full 8 weeks.

·         Teachers will be expected to find a substitute if/when an unexpected sickness prevents him/her from teaching (a list of available substitute teachers will be provided).

·         Teachers are responsible for attendance including making phone calls to parents if a student is absent more than two days. Parents will be required to sign an Attendance Agreement.

·         Teachers are responsible for classroom management/discipline including making phone calls to parents. Parents will be required to sign a Behavior Agreement which states that discipline not easily corrected will be reason for their son/daughter to be removed from the program.

·         Beginning/ending assessments, a progress report sent home at the end of the 4 weeks, and other documentation/reporting as requested by the Principal.

$21.3 million in federal GEER funding for teachers and school staff who provide services for a K-8 summer program and/or high school credit recovery program under Sec.23b has been signed into law giving each eligible teacher $1,000 and each eligible school staff member $250. Payments may be prorated if the funds are insufficient. No concrete information has been provided to schools on eligibility, application for this grant, or when the funds will be distributed. Our district will make every effort to create schedules that ensure eligibility and apply for these funds, however, no promises are made that each summer employee will be eligible.
