TENNIS: 9-29-2023 Congrats to the following girls who placed in yesterday's Middle Peninsula Conference matches in Negaunee yesterday. Miaha Schiefel took 3rd today for 1 singles and Nola Puyear and Skylar Spencer took 4th for 1 doubles.

TENNIS: Our Gwinn Girls Tennis team participated in the UP's yesterday in Iron Mountain. Congratulations go out to Miaha Schiefel finishing as UP runner up for 1 singles and Brooke Chaput a semi-finalist for 2 singles. As a whole, Gwinn was in a 3-way tie for 4th place.

CROSS-COUNTRY: Congrats to Thomas Jenkins, Matthew Jenkins, Donald Jourdan, Ezekial Post and Landon Spade who were Escanaba Eskymos Cross Country Invitationas Champions at their meet over the weekend! Way to represent Gwinn!

Gwinn Wrestling Update

Both Kaila Sylvester and Shawna Sundholm participated in the MHSAA State Wrestling Finals at Ford Field this past weekend.

As a State Finalist, each lady Modeltowner was 1 of the final 16 in their respective weight classes across all Divisions.

Kaila Sylvester went 1-2 in the tournament, narrowly missing placement with a blood round loss to a fellow U.P. Wrestlers from Iron Mountain.

Shawna Sundholm went 3-2 and is your 5th place MHSAA Girls State Placer at 155 pounds.

Kaila and Shawna are both vanguards, as they were they very first Girls State Finalists for our school, while Shawna made history by becoming our first State Placer at the Tournament.

Both girls also excel in the classroom, which has led to their recognition as Individual All-State Academic Team Members.


The Gwinn wrestling team had five wrestlers qualify for the MHSAA Individual Regionals last weekend in Charlevoix and Cadillac.

Participating in Charlevoix for the boys were Colton Berglund and Connor Dalton.

Participating in Cadillac for the girls were Kaleb Sylvester, Skylar Spencer, and Shawna Sundholm.

Colton Berglund placed third and has qualified for the MHSAA State Finals as one of the final 16 wrestlers in D4.

Connor Dalton narrowly missed placement after making the semifinals.

Caleb Sylvester placed third and has qualified for the MHSAA State Finals as one of the final 16 wrestlers across all divisions

Skylar Spencer narrowly missed placement after battling back all the way to the blood round.

Shawna Sundholm placed second and has qualified for the MHSAA State Finals as one of the final 16 wrestlers across all divisions.

Coach Stachewicz was also nominated as a candidate for the Michigan Wrestling Association Regional Coach of the Year.s.
